1st JOINT ESQH-ISQua CONFERENCE

The first regional European conference organised jointly by ESQH and ISQua on “Development of Quality Improvement in Europe” was held in Krakow May 18 - 20, 2011.

The conference was supported by the European Commission, Council of Europe, and the Ministry of Health, Poland, as well as the rich ESQH Network of Members, Affiliates and Partners.

Co-organisers of the event were the Polish National Centre for Quality Assessment in Healthcare and the Polish Society for Quality Promotion in Healthcare.

Keynote speakers included Sir Liam Donaldson, Andrzej Rys, Niek Klazinga, Bruce Barraclough, Paul Bartels, Margaret Murphy, Jan Mainz, Ales Bourek and Tracy Cooper.

Themes:
- Integrating Quality & Safety in Clinical and Organisational Management
- Sharing European Experience of Quality Improvement
- Improving Team Work & Patient Involvement

Format:
- Innovative ‘Quality Workhouse’
- Conference Streams with Introductory Keynote Presentations
- Many Short Presentations of Good Practice from across Europe

The pre-conference workshops (18 May) Training the Trainers covered the following themes:
- Quality Standards Implementation for Hospitals
- Requirements & Guidelines for Transforming Hospital Care
- Root Cause Analysis of Adverse Events
- Practical Tools for Risk Managers
