Workshop Chairs: David Somekh & Agnes Jacquerye.

Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen,

Welcome to the third Autumn Workshop of the European Society for Quality in Healthcare, here in Brussels. My co-chair for the day is David Somekh from the UK, and I am Agnes Jacquerye, the Belgian delegate of ESQH.

I would like to welcome especially all the delegates of the different countries that make up ESQH and if I'm not mistaken, tomorrow also we hope that Luxembourg will be joining us as a new member of our growing organization.

But first today. As you know, the theme for today is the value of European collaboration and we're very pleased to host so many people who represent a wide variety of European organizations with an interest in quality of care. When I look at the list of participants, it is quite clear that this is a topic with a growing interest on a European level. I am sure that Marius Buiting as president of ESQH will say a little more about this later in the day. And to do justice to this growing interest we are very pleased to present today's programme for you.

And to start today's programme, it is with great pleasure for me to introduce to you Mrs Anita Simoens-DeSmet. She is a lady with a great interest in quality of care, an interest she has had for many years. At the moment she is Advisor-General at the Belgian Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Environment and we are very pleased that she has agreed to open this day as a representative of the Belgian government. So, I will stop talking now and would like to ask your attention for Mrs. Simoens.

Welcome; Anita Simoens-DeSmet
