Joint Commission International

The mission of Joint Commission International is to continuously improve the safety and quality of care in the international community through the provision of education and consultation services and international accreditation.

Joint Commission International (JCI) is a division of Joint Commission Resources (JCR), the subsidiary of the Joint Commission. For more than 75 years, the Joint Commission and its predecessor organization have been dedicated to improving the quality and safety of health care services. Today the largest accreditor of health care organizations in the United States, the Joint Commission surveys nearly 20,000 health care programs through a voluntary accreditation process. The Joint Commission and its subsidiary are both not-for-profit corporations.

Education
JCI offers a variety of educational programs, including the International Practicums, which allow participants to learn best practices in patient safety from experts and apply their knowledge during on-site hospital survey simulations. They also offer custom education programs tailored to the needs of specific organizations.

Consultation
JCI also provides consulting services that help organizations achieve their patient safety and quality improvement goals. JCI consultants have experience in a variety of international health care settings and expertise in medicine, nursing, management, strategic planning, facility planning, accreditation, managed care and other specialties. They provide practical solutions to help develop services, improve patient care, reduce costs and reach international standards and other goals.

Accreditation
Finally, JCI accreditation can help international health care organizations, public health agencies, health ministries and others to evaluate, improve and demonstrate the quality of patient care. JCI accreditation standards are based on international consensus standards and set uniform, achievable expectations for structures, processes and outcomes for hospitals. The accreditation process is designed to accommodate specific legal, religious and cultural factors within a country.

JCI accredits organizations that fall into the following categories:
Hospitals
Laboratories
Medical Transport
Care Continuum
Ambulatory Care
Disease or Condition-Specific Certification
